Our Constant Battle Against Spam Ends with Captcha
- 1 Comment

I manage several forum and blog sites and one of the headaches in maintaining websites is fighting spam, a scourge in the world wide web. Are we losing the battle against spam considering that the moment we find a way to prevent it from coming to our site, a new method of spamming is already in the offing? No, we are not losing our battle against spammers and rogue elements in the world wide web. In due time we will completely win it. In fact we are already winning the fight courtesy of captcha.
In forum sites powered by SMF, I use captcha in the registration page of the site. This is to strengthen online security so that my forum members’ accounts and profile information are not harvested by software bots or even by human spammers doing manual spamming. Online security is as important as protecting your house from intruders and burglars. Some of our sites contain sensitive information or data that ought not be shared with others or be made public.
If you’re running blog sites, you need to install captcha in your registration page, that is if you allow open registration, or in your comment areas. Without a captcha mechanism, you can be sure that your beautifully written articles will be riddled with comment links that point to indecent and illegal sites. Or if you are running e-commerce sites where you allow customers to register in your site, make sure that online security comes with paramount importance. Or if your sites have contact forms, submission forms, or request forms, humans and bots must be separated in the same way that we separate the boys from the men, therefore you should get a free captcha download and build a strong online defense against spam bots and email harvester softwares.
We can finally win our battle against spam if we don’t let our guards down. This entails updating the captcha mechanism that you install in your site and you should also be updated with the latest online security news and tips.

Text-based Authentication is a thing of the past and still continues to be a problem for most people along with it still allowing for SPAM/BOTS to get through you have to now contend with Phish Attacks. Anyone that has ever used CAPTCHA and/or RECAPTCHA know that is becomes a complete hassle trying to decipher the random words along with have to start over if you input the incorrect verbiage.
We are always looking for new add-ons for Joomla, Drupal and WordPress. Today, we came across something different in attempting to handle the problem of stopping bots from automatically putting posts or new account registrations. Confident Technologies has a new and unique product. Most captcha products require the user to read a text display of letters and/or numbers that often is very difficult to read. For users, this is often a difficult process and can become frustrating for them.
