SEO Common Sense

A question was asked at WebhostingTalk on the issue whether it is appropriate to perform search engine optimization campaign for an American company getting links from Indian websites. The OP in that thread was of course an Indian. He admitted that he was doing seo for this American company and he posed the question.
One answer to the question was a bit sarcastic. That member said he was thankful he did not hire that Indian guy as an seo specialist for his sites. His contention was that by accepting an SEO work for an American company it was implied you knew the work and you knew the rules.
What is the rule? The SEO rule is that you cannot optimize an American site using links from Indian websites. Why is that so? Because the search engine results in Google USA are different from those of Google India. Indians are for the Indians as America is for America.
This is common sense in SEO.
