Wash Hands Before You Eat and Use Spoon and Fork

A couple of weeks ago, one of my friends who stays at the same dorm where I stay acted generously by sharing his food with me. Well, I was not looking at him when he scoured some food from his plate using his bare hands. Had I known that he was not using spoon in transferring food from his plate to my plate, I would have politely turned down his food offer. I wanted to vomit but I didn't want to insult him point blank.

My friend is an Indian. I don't really know if people in India wash hands before they eat. I have not been to India. I also don't know if eating with bare hands is an Indian practice. If it is, I think this practice is dangerous.

For me, eating with bare hands is disgusting. I just can't take it. All the germs and viruses stay in the hands that we use to touch many things. Our hands will never be sterile.

I hope my Indian friend would change his habit of not washing hands and not using spoon and fork when he eats his food. This eating practice is abominable in America and in many Western countries.

Eating with one’s bare hands is quite acceptable especially in some cultures where this is the preferred way of eating, However, transferring food from one’s plate to another using bare hands is unacceptable.
